Here at The Fern Forest Nursery you’ll find we
stock a large range of foliage plants for all growing conditions. If you’re
after that real tropical look we have plenty of Bromeliads, Ginger, Cordylines,
Native orchids, Bird of Paradise, Dracaena, Yucca sp and Philodendrons to
choose from. We also have Cordylines, Succulents and grasses inc. Flax,
Dianella, Liriope, Libertia and Mondo for borders and mass plantings in tough

You’re sure to find something to spice up your
garden with many different foliage shapes, colours and textures available for
the job.
Bromeliads are well
known for their colourful and striking foliage along with their vibrant long
lasting flowers and are perfect to add an exciting splash of colour to your
tropical backyard or shade house. Here you’ll find a wide range or species and
cultivars. They include the colourful Neoregelia sp. with their pink, red or
purple rosettes to the larger Aechmea sp. with their tall flower spikes.
Bromeliads can be grown in both pots with well drained potting mix as well as
in the ground provide the drainage is provided.
Ginger is a great
foliage to plant to fill in the gaps of your garden and create that tropical
look in a short period of time. They range form small deciduous types to larger
evergreen varieties and many in between. The large ‘Shell Ginger’ with its
green and yellow variegated leave looks stunning in a large clump as does the
smaller growing ‘Red Back Ginger’ with its striking dark red/purple undersides.
Other gingers include ‘Blue Ginger’ and ‘Beehive’ and ‘Black’ ginger.
Strelitzia (Bird of Paradise) we now stock an even larger range of
Strelitzia species in an even larger range sizes and prices. Great for that
modern tropical look in your backyard. Some of the species available are

reginae- An old favourite perfect for a classy ornamental feature plant that
will grow in the toughest of conditions. Striking orange and purple flowers
look great in spring and summer
·Strelitzia
reginae dwarf – Much the same as the normal reginae half the size! Growing to
only 90cm tall it is perfect for a feature plant in pots.
·Strelitzia
Nicolai – The giant bird of paradise are great plants if you’re after a tropical
on a large scale. They feature large dark green glossy leaves and a clumping
habit with beautiful purple-blue and white flowers up to 500mm long! A very
attractive plant for tropical gardens.
·Strelitzia
juncea – This much sort after hard to find plant is a real stunner. Growing the
same size as reginae but developing long, rush like stems without a leaf or
blade. A great plant if you’re after some just a little bit different.
