Cycads are an ancient group of plants that once
dominated much of prehistoric earth’s vegetation but are now one of the rarest
and most endangered plant groups on the planet. Although they resemble palms
& ferns they are in fact closely related to conifers and bare pine cone
like structures in order to reproduce with plants being either male or female.
Cycads are a very hardy and versatile group of plants and most varieties will
thrive in many different conditions as long as you get the basics right. When
selecting a variety it is important to know where you want it to grow, what
size area the plant has to grow in, if its for in full sun, shade or something
in between. There is a cycad to suit most any position in the garden from sun
to shade, small growing or large they make a stunning, architectural feature
plant in pots or gardens.
